Tidbit: Eckstein Agrees to On-Year Deal w/ Padres

January 15, 2009

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune David Eackstein has signed with the Padres and will be their starting 2nd baseman for the 2009 season.

The Padres have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with David Eckstein to play second base. Eckstein, who will turn 34 on Tuesday, batted .265 with two home runs last season and played at both shortstop and second base. He appeared in 94 games — 76 with the Blue Jays, 18 with the Diamondbacks. Eckstein was the starting shortstop on World Series championship clubs with the Angels (2002) and Cardinals (2006).  – Tom Krasovic/SDUT

No word yet on how much the one-year deal is worth.

I’m glad, this means people can finally shut up about getting Eckstein as our 2nd baseman. I’d rather stick with Castillo and hope he’s feeling better and stays in shape. Eckstein hit .265 last season for the Blue Jays & The D’Backs.
