Heilman to The Cubs – Garland a DBack

January 28, 2009

UPDATE:
Done deal. ESPN is reporting the trade was  P Aaron Heilman for SS Ronny Cedeno & P Garrett Olson.

MLBTradeRumors is reporting that the Cubs are close to acquiring Heilman in a deal that would send pitching and maybe shortstop Ronny Cedeno to the Mariners. The Cubs are most likely use Heilman as another chip in their trade for Peavy. You could count on it. Poor Heilman wilh be on like 3 different teams this offseason alone if he’s dealt as part o the Peavy trade.

UPDATE:
Jon Heyman’s saying that the deal is worth $6.25 mil. for the first year and the 2010 mutual option, which means that both sides have to agree, is about $10 mil. If either side does not accept Garland receives a buyout of about $1 mil.

They’re also reporting that The Diamondbacks have signed pitcher Jon Garland to a one year deal worth somewhere around $6-8 mil. It also includes an option for 2010.
