I’m Back! Kind Of…– Santana Won’t Pitch For The WBC

February 9, 2009

From the moment it was known pitcher Johan Santana had surgery on his knee to fix a torn meniscus fans and writers alike were wondering what his fate would be regarding the World Baseball Classic.
Santana, who would have represented his native Venezuela in the Classic, has decided to opt-out after Mets officials advised him it would be wise to do so. The surgery wasn’t a big deal but you can’t take risks with guys as valuable as Santana. If he were to get injured our season would go down the drain – good idea of him to listen to and be okay with the Mets’ decision.

Johan Santana plans to withdraw from the World Baseball Classic at the request of Mets officials and remain in camp during spring training, the Daily News has learned. Santana, who worked on his conditioning at the team’s complex in Port St. Lucie Monday, hasn’t stepped on a mound yet this winter but “feels great,” according to a Mets insider. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Oct. 1 to repair a torn meniscus, four days after a heroic effort against the Marlins during the second-to-last game of the season. – Adam Rubin

Best news of the off-season! Love this tournament, hate having Mets in it.

Yeah, it’s definitely a pain in the ass having it during spring training being that it takes away usually the best players from the team for a while and risks injuries on key players.

    Thanks for commenting BTW.
